Friendly Fire: Toward Non-Lethal Policing

Actually, it should be pretty obvious why non-lethal policing is preferable to making a cop judge, jury and executioner.  The concept of friendly fire comes to mind.  Look at the number of policemen who get shot by their own forces.  Look at the number of innocent bystanders or hostages or little children who get shot by police fire. 
When you call the police to handle a crazy, violent relative you generally are not asking for that relative to be killed before you very eyes in cold blood.  You'd like a nice peaceful take down that ends in crazy uncle Eddy getting a 72 hour psych eval.
