We were reminded when we saw that some of the flooded out residents of Houston had run out of drinkable water that much of the time attention that people spend on preparedness, emergencies or being a prepper is probably wasted. You can live without matches and Mylar blankets. You can even live without food for 4 weeks. You are not going to last a week without water. So maybe we should concentrate our emergency preparedness on that.
There is only so much water your can store and something like a flood will get rid of all that water your stored.
But there are other ways to get all the water you need even if all the water you have access to is contaminated:
